LilPrompter

A separate reading screen for your next call

Teleprompter for Google Meet

Open LilPrompter in a separate browser window near your webcam while Google Meet handles the call. If you present, select the specific tab or window your audience needs and keep the script outside that source.

Free, no signup. Transfer up to 4,000 characters here, or paste longer scripts directly in the app.

Set up your Google Meet reading window

  1. Join with your camera and microphone

Join the call normally and confirm the selected camera. Presenting from Meet’s green room joins Companion mode, where the microphone and speakers are unavailable.

  2. Place the script near the camera

Use a narrow LilPrompter window close to the lens. Keep Meet’s mute, camera and leave controls reachable rather than covering the whole call.

  3. Share only the intended content

In Meet, use Present now and choose the presentation tab or window. An entire-screen share can include a script on that display.

  4. Check from the audience side

Confirm the shared output with a test attendee before the real presentation. Recheck after changing the selected tab, display or window arrangement.

  5. Rehearse the controls you will use

Start scrolling from the prompter, then test how you will pause for questions and return focus. Keep the pace slow enough to speak normally.

What can Google Meet participants see?

Google Meet’s presentation guide describes tab, window and entire-screen sharing. Choose the smallest source that contains the material you intend to show. Sharing the entire display also captures visible notes on that display; switching to the script in a shared tab can expose it.

Your camera feed also appears if enabled. Check the selected source from an attendee view.

Example: share the slides tab while reading a separate script window. This arrangement depends on keeping that tab as the selected source; verify it before presenting.

The camera and screen share are separate views. Keep your script near the actual camera to reduce eye travel, but judge the result in a short camera test rather than assuming a small window will be unnoticeable.

One laptop, two monitors or a second reading device?

On one laptop, put the prompter near the top of the screen and the call controls below or beside it. Present a specific tab when that fits your material. Avoid sharing the Meet window itself, which can produce a repeated meeting view and reveal the arrangement you are using.

With two displays, keep the script on the camera-side display and choose the other presentation source explicitly. If your demonstration requires the entire computer display, put the script on a separate phone or tablet instead. Copy the text to that device yourself; LilPrompter does not pair devices or synchronize scripts.

Use the font-size preview from your actual sitting position. A large second monitor far from the camera can be harder to read naturally than a smaller window close to it.

Why did my scroll controls stop responding?

Keyboard controls act on the focused application. After clicking Meet, return focus to the prompter before using its shortcuts. Test this transition in rehearsal so you do not accidentally send a call shortcut while trying to change the read.

LilPrompter scrolls at a fixed rate; it will not wait for an attendee’s question. Pause when you stop speaking, find your next point, then resume. Its optional spoken commands are start, stop and reset, rather than speech-following. On a live call, spoken commands can also be heard through an unmuted microphone.

If Meet does not offer the share option you expect, check the host or administrator’s settings and the browser’s screen-sharing permission. Keep the current Meet instructions open for your platform rather than changing settings blindly during the call.

Prepare a call outline instead of a wall of text

Use a full script for an announcement with exact wording. For a discussion, write a short opening, three talking points and a closing question. Leave the scroll paused while listening. If the meeting changes direction, return to a heading rather than trying to catch up with paragraphs that have moved away.

Time the planned section with the words-to-minutes calculator. Reserve discussion time separately from your spoken section, then test the complete camera-and-sharing setup once before inviting the audience.

Teleprompter for Google Meet FAQ

Is LilPrompter a Google Meet extension?

No. It runs in its own browser window. Google Meet provides the call, camera, screen sharing and any meeting recording available to you.

Can attendees see my script?

They can if it appears inside the screen, window or tab you share. A separate window outside a specifically selected share source can keep it out of that output; check the attendee view.

Why is my microphone unavailable after I click Present before joining?

Google says Present from the green room joins Companion mode, where microphone and speaker audio are unavailable. Join the meeting normally when you need to speak from that computer.
