Teleprompter mirror mode

Mirror mode flips your script so you can read its reflection in teleprompter glass. Turn it on if the words look backwards in the glass. If you're reading straight from a screen, leave it off.

How to set up your reading screen

Open and format the script
Keep the reading area inside the visible glass and choose a readable size.
Check the reflection
Use LEFT 123 RIGHT and look at the reflection from the speaking position.
Try mirror mode
Some teleprompters already flip the image. If the words read correctly in the glass, leave mirror mode off.
Secure the display and camera
Follow your teleprompter's instructions for mounting the screen and positioning the camera.
Record a framing test
Check the video for glare, dark corners or edges of the teleprompter in the shot.

Why does reflected text need a flip?

Beam-splitter glass reflects a monitor image towards you while letting the camera see through it. Flipping the text on the screen makes the reflection readable. Purpose-built coated glass is different from an ordinary household mirror.

Some screens or teleprompters already flip the image. Type LEFT 123 RIGHT and look at the reflection. If it reads correctly, you don't need another flip. Leave mirror mode off when reading straight from a screen.

Which mirror setting do you need?

Script mirror mode: Horizontally reverses the displayed words for reflective glass.
Operating-system display mirroring: Duplicates one desktop onto another display; it does not reverse the letters.
Webcam mirrored self-view: Changes how the camera preview appears; it is independent of the script display.

Troubleshoot the reflection and camera frame

If the words look backwards, try turning mirror mode on or off. Your teleprompter may already be flipping the image.
If words are cut off, make the reading area narrower or adjust the screen's position.
If the words are hard to see, check screen brightness and room lighting. Make sure the hood is fitted and you're reading from the right position.
If you see dark corners or frame edges in the video, adjust the camera's position behind the glass.

Check that the screen fits your teleprompter and is bright enough to read from your recording position. Mirror mode only flips your script; it doesn't change the recorded video.
