The width shrinks to fit your screen. Scroll inside the preview to read the full text. Settings here are for rehearsal; set your chosen values again in the prompter.

Read from your camera position

Put the camera at eye level. Read this sentence from your recording position. Let your eyes return to the lens. If you lean forward or scan across a long line, adjust the size or narrow the reading area. Then read the same words again.

Use your own script

Paste the words you will read. The preview updates as you type.

Free, no signup. Transfer up to 4,000 characters here, or paste longer scripts directly in the app.

Calibrate text from the lens, not the keyboard

Five steps to size text from where you actually record.

  1. Put the reading device where it will be during the take. Set browser zoom to the level you intend to keep.
  2. Step or sit at your real speaking distance. Increase text size until ordinary words are easy to distinguish.
  3. Narrow the reading width until your eyes can return to the lens without sweeping across a long sentence.
  4. Adjust line spacing so you can pick up the next line. Read several paragraphs, including long words and names.
  5. Record a short camera test using your recording app. Check both readability and visible eye movement.

Change one variable at a time

Size and width change how many words pass the reading point.

Large type reduces the words on each line; narrow columns create more line breaks. Both change how many words pass a reading point at a fixed scroll rate. Set size and width first, then calibrate speed with the speaking-time and rehearsal tool. A 130 WPM estimate is not a setting of 130 in the prompter.

This preview uses the app’s System Sans font stack, with the available font depending on your device. It stays still so you can compare legibility. Its pixel width is a preview constraint, while LilPrompter’s own margin setting controls the reading area inside the app.

Check spacing, contrast and the reflected view

Test backgrounds and mirroring in the room you will record in.

Try both dark and light backgrounds in the room you will use. If you read through glass, turn on horizontal mirroring and judge the reflection, rather than the reversed text on the device. Recheck contrast with your actual lights and camera position.

W3C’s explanation of text spacing describes why readers need room to adjust spacing without losing content. There is no single spacing or size that suits every reader. This tool keeps the full script available in a keyboard-focusable, scrollable preview as you change the layout.

Questions about this tool

Short answers about what the tool does, what it leaves out and where your data goes.

What is the best teleprompter font size?

Choose it from your actual reading position. Increase the size until you can read comfortably, then adjust line width to reduce sideways eye movement. This preview uses LilPrompter’s supported 24–128 CSS-pixel font-size range.

Does 48px mean the same physical size on every screen?

No. CSS pixels do not specify a universal physical text height. Screen density, browser zoom, device scaling, viewing distance and glass can change the result. Check on the device you will actually use.

Do these settings transfer into the teleprompter?

The script can transfer through the button, within its length limit. Font size, line spacing, mirror and width settings must be set again in the app. Preview width is a maximum text width; the app uses its own margin control.

Should text be mirrored for a normal webcam call?

Use normal text when reading directly from a screen. Horizontal mirroring is useful when the script is reflected in teleprompter glass. Test the reflected view before recording.
