Microphone check and audio recorder
Audio stays local
Check a short take before recording
Five steps from the permission prompt to a take you keep.
- Choose Start microphone and respond to the browser’s permission prompt.
- Select the intended microphone after labels become available. Changing devices releases the current input; choose Start again.
- Speak at your ordinary recording volume and check for quiet or high digital input.
- Record a five-second test, then replay it. Use headphones if needed to avoid playback feeding into a live microphone.
- Download the take you want to keep. Delete it explicitly before recording a replacement.
Keep recording and prompting roles clear
This recorder is separate from the teleprompter app.
This is a standalone website recorder utility. The prompter app remains a separate reading screen. Browser codec support and device resources determine the available recording format; the completed take shows the actual MIME type and size.
Browser media capture needs a secure context and your permission. Recording format detection narrows the choices, while runtime errors are still handled. Keep this tab active and download important takes before leaving.
Questions about this tool
Short answers about what the tool does, what it leaves out and where your data goes.
Does this upload or transcribe audio?
No. This utility checks digital input levels and records locally with browser media APIs. It does not use speech recognition, transcription or an upload service.
Can I download MP3 directly from this recorder?
The recorder uses the format supported by your browser and labels its actual MIME type and file extension. It does not rename WebM as MP3. Use the separate local converter if you need a supported conversion.
What does dBFS measure?
dBFS describes digital signal level relative to full scale. This meter is not calibrated acoustic dB and does not diagnose your microphone, voice or hearing.
When does microphone access stop?
Stop input, Stop and save, device changes, leaving the route and pagehide release the media tracks and audio context. A pending permission request can be canceled; a late stream is immediately stopped.
